The Shahbaz Sharif administration has announced that petroleum prices will remain unchanged for the next fortnight starting March 16, 2025. This decision comes as part of a strategy to offset fluctuations in global oil rates by implementing a notable reduction in electricity tariffs.
Key Details:
- Petroleum Prices (Effective March 16, 2025):
- High-Speed Diesel (HSD): Rs. 258.64 per liter
- Motor Spirit (MS-Petrol 92 RON): Rs. 255.63 per liter
- Superior Kerosene Oil (SKO): Rs. 168.12 per liter
- Light Diesel Oil (LDO): Rs. 153.34 per liter
According to a notification from the Finance Division, there will be no changes to the prices of these essential petroleum products for the upcoming fortnight.
Additional Levy Information:
In a related development, the government has decided to raise the petroleum levy on petrol and diesel by Rs. 10 per liter, increasing it from Rs. 60 to Rs. 70 per liter, effective immediately from March 16.
Government Statement:
The Prime Minister’s Office has confirmed that the federal government will maintain the current prices of petroleum products while ensuring that the financial benefits will be passed on to the public through adjustments in electricity tariffs. This approach aims to mitigate the impact of fluctuating global oil prices on the domestic economy and provide relief to consumers.
This decision is expected to provide some stability to consumers amidst rising costs and global market volatility. The administration continues to focus on balancing energy pricing with the broader goal of economic stabilization.
